Let me start by saying that when it was announced that Formula E was actually going to happen, I was ecstatic. This will be the future of open-wheel racing, and the fact that it is already happening is impressive.
Then I read that they would sound ( obviously ) different from a petrol engine, but not be silent/extremely quiet. I think we all had an idea in our heads as to what this thing would sound like, but this wasn't exactly what I had in mind.
It sounds like an RC car to me. Which I don't necessarily like. What I do like, however, is that you can clearly hear the tires squealing and the gearbox clunking between shifts. And the styling...Looks great, very alike to a GP2 chassis.
No matter what you think about how it sounds, there's no doubt that electric motors in racing aren't going anywhere.

Racing is going to lose a lot of spectators if they can't figure out how to make electric cars sound like Norse Gods. 90% of the fun of watching a race is listening to the cars.
